How to stuff in a 2MB file in a floppy disk? How to squeeze 1 GB file to a CD disk? Well, technical both tasks are impossible. However, there is a work-around which can allow you to stuff 2MB file in 2 floppy disks. Similarly a 1GB file into 2 CD disks.
Best way to stuff in bigger files in smaller storage medium in by spitting them. You can spit a 2MB file into 2 pieces of one MB each and store pieces in 2 floppy disks. You can split files by using a file splitter. Following are few handy FREE file-spillter software:
1. File Splitter - It is a freeware program which does not require installation and can be used to split files to multiple chunks as well as to merge multiple chunks into a single file. Select the source file (that need to be split) and destination folder to store the broken/split chunks. Select size of each chunk and click on split.
To join the files back you will need this program. Simply select the folder containing chunks and output folder and then click on Join. Very easy to use utility.
2. JR Split File - Another freeware program to split large files. This programs works bit differently. When you split files, a batch file is also created in the folder containing splits/chunks. Unlike first software above, you do not need this software to merge chunks to the original file.
To join all the chunks/splits you just need to double click on the batch file in the folder and output will result into original file. This is also a portable program that does not require installation, simply double click on exe file of the program to launch the application.
3. HJ Split -It is a freeware file splitter that can split files of any type and size. It does not need any installation. Just click on hjsplit.exe and the program starts. This program can even handle files which are larger than 10Gb.
Besides storing large files, you can also split large files to send smaller chunks via email. Surely can make life easy, if you often deal with large files.
