3-G mobile phone licensing to start by June: PTA Chief

Islamabad—Pakistan Tele-communication Authority (PTA) would start 3-G mobile phone licensing process this year, hoping these modern services to be available in the country by 2009. “For this purpose auction of the spectrum would be carried out this year and licenses would be awarded through competitive bidding,” said Chairman PTA, Major General (Retd) Shahzada Alam Malik.
Addressing a press conference here Friday, he said the Authority plans to issue three such licenses to the existing operators. “The 3rd-Generation mobile services will enable consumers to use Internet with high speed, make video calls and other value added data services,” he added.
Pakistan has now 77 million mobile phone subscribers, 2.1 million Wireless Local Loop (WLL) and 4.7 million fixed line consumers, he said and added at present, over 90% population has the coverage of telecom services. Enumerating the developments in telecom sector, he said the unprecedented growth in this area has impacted the overall economy of the country in many direct and indirect ways.
Renowned international telecom operators and investors have acquired stakes in Pakistan telecom sector, showing utmost confidence in the telecom policies and regulatory environments of the country, he added.
Regarding licensing in AJK, Chairman PTA said five mobile companies were awarded licenses for AJK & NAs and they had started their services in these areas. He said PTA deposited Rs.1.2 billion with the AJK Council and NAs Secretariat on account of Initial License Fee (ILF) collected from mobile phone operators.
He said on similar lines PTA has launched the second phase of deregulation of fixed line services in the area in September 2007. It has received an overwhelming response with a total of 81 application for various licenses including Long Distance International (LDI), FLL, WLL and others.

Top 10 Sci Fi Inventions that Should not be Invented

There are tons of awesome inventions in sci fi movies and books. Things like faster than light travel, force fields and bionic implants. There are also some things that, on the surface, seem like they would make life easier and simpler. This is a list of sci fi inventions that seem great, but are really more trouble then they are worth.

10. Flying Cars

Flying Car

Imagine being stuck in traffic. It sucks right? Now imagine that you could flip a switch, and suddenly your car would begin to rise into the air. You fly over all those suckers stuck in traffic, gloating. Now that you’re flying, imagine running into a tree. Next, imagine getting into a fender bender with another flying car and plummeting toward your death in a flaming heap of twisted metal.

Flying cars would undoubtedly solve a number of problems. The only thing is, they would create a whole new world of problems. To keep from running into every single power line and radio tower we would need to create laws dictating where you could drive. Kind of like creating flying roads. Of course, as soon as you get enough flying cars, you get a traffic jam on the skyways, thus negating the purpose of having a flying car.

10. Pete Rose (1941 - Reds, Phillies, Expos - Reds Manager)

Pete-Rose-Jockey

In August 1989, three years after he retired as an active player, Rose agreed to permanent ineligibility from baseball amidst accusations that he gambled on baseball games while playing for and managing the Reds; some accusations claimed that he bet on, and even against, the Reds. After years of public denial, in 2004 he admitted to betting on, but not against, the Reds. After Rose’s ban was instated, the Baseball Hall of Fame formally voted to ban those on the “permanently ineligible” list from induction. His hordes of adoring fans each, in their own way, continue to plead for his inclusion into the Hall, but thus far, no one is bending. So, I guess that just goes to show you how incomprehensibly stupid it is to bet while still employed by the MLB. Nice one, Charlie Hustle.

Top 10 People Who Committed Suicide In Public

10. Romas Kalanta

10.Romas Kalanta The Young Man With The Mesmerizing Eyes

Romas Kalanta (February 22, 1953 - May 14, 1972) is considered a national hero of Lithuania, and is the subject of several books. Romas Kalanta set himself on fire in a public place in the Lithuanian city of Kaunas on May 14, 1972 in protest of the oppression of the Lithuanian language, culture and people by the government of the Soviet Union. At the time it was very difficult to tell the western world about this oppression, as the Soviet government made foreign communications nearly impossible.

Up until the time of this event, foreigners were only able to see the “bright” side of the Lithuanian situation—the side that the government wanted them to see. Kalanta’s suicide was seen by many people, including journalists who visited the Soviet Union. The Soviet government tried to cover up the event, but its story spread as legend by word of mouth. This caused student unrest in Lithuania, especially in Kaunas.

Kalanta used fuel to set himself alight. Due to the need for secrecy at the time, details of the event are disputed. The common belief is that he and a few of his classmates formed a patriot group, and that they held a lottery to determine which of them would have to carry out the mission.

Top 35 Fairytale Castles

Congratulations to Mathilda for this excellent list - she has won the third prize of a $25 iTunes music card.

According to Wikipedia, “A castle is a defensive structure seen as one of the main symbols of the Middle Ages. The term has a history of scholarly debate surrounding its exact meaning, but it is usually regarded as being distinct from the general terms fort or fortress in that it describes a building which serves as a residence of a medieaval monarch or noble and commands a specific territory.” I have chosen to use my own criteria for inclusion in this list, that being, if I were a princess in a fairytale, would I want to live there? As such, interior condition was not taken into consideration, exterior setting was very important, and any past gory history was ignored. I only included one per country so there are scores of equally beautiful castles which had to be excluded. (I did make an exception to the one per country rule for England, as I really, really want to live in one of the two shown.)

Top 25 Quotes of Margaret Thatcher

When Margaret Thatcher came to power in 1979, Britain was a dump, “the sick man of Europe” and on the brink of total economic collapse. When she left power in 1990, it was the one of the financial capitals of the world. She is associated her political philosophy of Thatcherism, based on low taxation, low public spending, free markets and mass privatisation. I personally love Margaret Thatcher for her honesty, bluntness, strength of character and her radicalism. Many others hate her though, mainly on the left of politics who believed that she destroyed workers rights and slashed public spending. During her tenure she had to deal with mass unemployment, out of control inflation, endless strikes, a war with the Falklands, and an attempted assassination by the IRA. In February 2007, she became the first British Prime Minister to be honoured with a statue in the House of Commons while still alive; a testament to her incredible legacy.

1. Pennies don’t fall from heaven - they have to be earned here on earth.
2. No one would remember the Good Samaritan if he’d only had good intentions; he had money as well.

I have always admired Harry Truman for his plainspoken common sense, his zero tolerance policy for bullshit, his sharp wit, and blunt honesty. It’s too bad we don’t have a president like him today. A lifelong, avid reader, he was self-educated and could have easily run intellectual circles around the present resident of the White House. He also has the distinction of being the last president who did not leave the presidency as a millionaire. Here is a list of 25 Truman quotes.

This calmed people a bit.

AYE DHARTI KE CHAAND SITARON...

People went out of control this time and started beating and kicking
him. He begged for mercy but they were not ready to listen to him
any more, so he finally stated…..

GARDISH MAIN HAI SITARE, GAND MARLO HAMARI..
GARDISH MAIN HAI SITARE, GAND MARLO HAMARI....
JAB BAHARE-CHAMAN MAIN HONGE, MAA CHOD-DENGE TUMHARI...

Rest is history. But the history stayed with him when he grew up.

Ab jaahir hai ki aise chutiye ke prem me koi padega nahi. To yeh

Ek usne achchhi ladki ko dekha. Ladki ka dhyaan kahi aur tha to

LENI HAI WOHI CHEEZ JO TUNE TANGO ME CHHEPAYEE HAI

That was it! Ladki ek dam ruth gayi aur shayar se milna jhulna chhod
diya. To shayar ki haalat bhi kharab ho gayi. Dost log bhi khairat
puchhne chale aaye. To cheer him up, they requested him to say a
sher dedicated to her. So he goes…

BEDARD ZAMANA KYA JAANE
KYA CHEEZ JUDAAI HOTI HAI
HUM LUND PAKAD KAR BAITHE HAI,
JABKI GHAR GHAR ME CHUDAI HOTI HAI

Yeh sunkar dost log hil gaye. Koi bola lund ko sambhalo. To koi
kaheta hai ki agar lund ko pakad kar baithoge to mutne kaise jaoge?
To shayar bolta hai…

KOUN KAHETA HAI KI LUND YAHAN MUTNE KO AATA HAI?
KOUN KAHETA HAI KI LUND YAHAN MUTNE KO AATA HAI?
ARE WOH TO CHUT KI YAAD ME AANSU BAHANE AATA HAI

Yeh sun kar sab dost log aur bhi pareshaan ho gaye. Ek dost se to
yeh suna bhi nahi gaya. To woh dost bolta – `Hai, mei kaise bhi
karke teri darling ko waapis bulaunga. Tere paas waapis aake tujh pe
ek ehsaan karne khi bhikh mangunga.' Ab aap log to jaante hi ho ki
yeh shayar log kitne independant hote hai. To humare shayar ko yeh
ehsaan lene wali baat kuch pasand nahi aayi. To woh bola…

EHSAAN KISI KA KYA LENA, HUM TO MUTH PE GUZAARA KARTE HAI
EHSAAN KISI KA KYA LENA, HUM TO MUTH PE GUZAARA KARTE HAI
JAB BHI YAAD UNKI AATI HAI, OOTH OOTH DUBARA KARTE HAI

Mahebooba kabhi waapis nahi aayi. To uski yaad bhulane ke liye wohi
shaayar Delhi chala gaya. Wahan jab Qutub Minar dekha to bola:

DEKH KE QUTUB MINAR, SHAYAR KA DIMAAG DODA
ASMAAN KO CHODNE CHALA DHARTI KA LAUDA

Is par Delhi police ki gaand mein khujli hui to usey pakad liya gaya
aur court mein pesh kiya gaya. Jab Judge sahiba ne poocha "tumhe
kuch kehna hai?" to woh bola:

AYE SANAM UTHA KALAM
MUJHE KASAM HAI RABKI
AYE SANAM UTHA KALAM
MUJHE KASAM HAI RABKI
MAA CHOD DOONGA SABKI...

On such a contempt of court, he was ordered to be hanged till death.
When he was buried, the judge sahiba visited his grave. Needless to
say, she was very mad so she pissed on his grave. Judge sahiba ke
jaane ke baad is shayar ke bhoot ne ek arz farmaya…

WO AAYE HUMARI KABAR PAR
AUR MOOTT KAR CHALE GAYE
WO AAYE HUMARI KABAR PAR
AUR MOOTT KAR CHALE GAYE
MUTNE KA TO BAHANA THA
WOH CHUT DIKHAKAR CHALE GAYE....!!

Load Shedding

Where is our Prime Minister Mr. ShortCut Aziz .. who said that there will be no load shedding in 2008 ... and also we have equipped every village with electricity ... actually he was right ... there is no load shedding ... there is load sharing ... means when the WAPDA or IESCO have some load to spare they give us some electricity to play with ... I live in G-10 .... the light went out at 9 in the morning for 2 hours .. then again at 1:50 it went out for 1 1/2 hour ... and it will again go at 6:30 .... ... what the fuck is this .. where are the bastards from the govt ..... who were very vocal about the electricity ... this is not my fucking fault that there is no dams ... this is not my fault that there is not rain ... WAPDA/IESCO you have taken money from us to provide electricity 24/7 .... but .... electricity is only available at night when everybody sleeps ... use as much electricity as you can but only at night ... its been 5 years I think since this electricity problem .. and out fucking govt hasnt done any thing yet to control this ... where are you ass holes ... the fucking Wifaqi Wazir-e-Electricity ... are you listening ....

Cisco Hot Standby Router Protocol

Two routers are connected to the network and the two default gateways do not provide a completely reliable path in the event of an outage. Although the ITA has some newer IP hosts that support dynamic router discovery with the ICMP Router Discovery Protocol (IRDP), it mostly has a large class of legacy host implementations that do not. These hosts are unable to find a new router when their default gateway becomes unavailable. The ITA is also concerned with IRDP?s administrative and processing overhead, security issues, and lack of support on the legacy platforms. Configuring HSRP on the two routers provides a fast fail-over mechanism that is transparent to the users. This allows hosts on the LAN segment to maintain access to the Web router if a single point of failure occurs.
