India Cements-owned Chennai Super Kings have shelled out a whopping $1.5 million to bag India's One-Day and Twenty20 skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni at the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction on Wednesday.
While Dhoni commanded the highest price at the auction, the Chennai team spent $4 million in all, cornering other heavyweights like Muttiah Muralitharan of Sri Lanka and Australian opener Matthew Hayden for $600,000 and $375,000 respectively.
By the end of the sixth round of auction, the Mohali team had spent $4 million, Mumbai $3.5 million, Bangalore $3.18 million, Kolkata $2.5 million, Delhi and Hyderabad $2.3 million each and Jaipur $1.7 million. Each team is allowed to spend a maximum of $5 million.
