Preparation of Home Remedies
According to ayurveda home remedies are prepared in the same way and with the same purpose as other ayurvedic medicines. The main aim is to obtain the maximum therapeutic benefit while making it palatable.

Some common methods of preparing home remedies are:

  • Juice
The juice may be taken from the fresh leaves, flowers or stems of the herb. The part of the herb used should be crushed or ground in a mortar and pestle, to make a paste. This paste should be put in a piece of cloth and squeezed to take out the juice.
Dosage: One to two tablespoons twice a day.

  • Powder
Dried herbs are used for powders. The herbs are usually dried in a cool, shady and well-ventilated place, although some herbs are dried in direct sunlight. The herbs are then ground into a fine powder and stored in a dry, airtight bottle. The powder may be taken with water, or if specified, with milk or honey.
Dosage: Half to one teaspoon twice a day

  • Decoction
A decoction is prepared by boiling the herb in water (ratio: 1 part herb to 16 parts water). The herbs are broken into pieces and soaked in water overnight. This mixture is then boiled until it reduces to one quarter of the original volume. It is then filtered and stored in a glass bottle.
Dosage: One to two tablespoons twice a day.

  • Infusion
Herbs are soaked in water to make an infusion (ratio: 1 part herb to 8 parts water). Hot infusions result from adding herbs to hot water, or gently heating but not boiling the mixture. This is strained and taken internally. Herbal teas are forms of hot infusions. Cold infusions are made from soaking the herb overnight. Honey can be added.
Dosage: half to one cup once or twice day.

  • Paste
A paste can be made from either fresh or dried herbs. The flowers, roots, stems, leaves or bark are ground and mixed with water. Pastes are mainly used for external application, in cases of cuts, burns and swellings. The paste should be thick enough to be applied in a layer to the skin.

  • Tablets
The herbs should be first dried separately and then mixed together in a powder form, in fixed proportions. Water or herbal juice can be added to this powder to make a paste, from which tablets of a specific size or weight are made. Tablets remain potent longer than juices, powders, pastes or decoctions.
Dosage: 1 or 2 tablets twice a day.

  • Medicated ghee and oil
Ghee is cooked with herbal juices, decoctions or pastes. The ghee should be heated with the herbal mixture at a moderate, controlled temperature. High temperatures can easily burn the ghee or oil, destroying its effectiveness. Medicated ghee and oils are either used internally or massaged externally.
    Dosage: Half to one tablespoon.

Chicken Pox treatment using Oatmeal

A bath of oatmeal is considered a natural remedy for relieving the itch due to chicken pox. This bath is prepared by cooking two cups of oatmeal in two liters of water for fifteen minutes. This mixture is then put into a cloth bag, preferably cotton, and a string is tied tightly around the top. This bag is allowed to float in a tub of warm water, and swished around until the water becomes turbid. Precaution should be taken to ensure that the bag is not torn. The child with chicken pox can splash and play in the water, making sure that water goes over all the scalds, while the pouch of oatmeal can remain in the tub .

Other Chicken Pox treatments

Warm-water enema

A small warm-water enema should be administered daily during the initial juice fast to cleanse the bowels.

Well-ventilated room is a must

The patient should be kept in a well-ventilated room. As light has a detrimental effect upon the eyes during an attack of chicken pox because of the weakened condition of the external eye tissues, the patient should shade his eyes from the direct light or the room should have subdued light.

Mud pack application on abdomen

Application of mud packs on the abdomen twice a day, in the morning and evening, and repeated applications of chest packs will be beneficial.

Lukewarm water baths with neem included in it

Lukewarm water baths can be given every day to relieve itching. For better results, neem leaves can be added to this water. The nails of the child should be kept clipped to prevent him from scratching, otherwise, germs on the skin may be scratched into the blisters, causing more severe infection.

Homeopathic Treatment

Chicken pox can be prevented by giving your child two or three doses of Variolinum 200 or Malandrinum 200 on successive days. This is, indeed, a good idea if cases of chicken pox are seen in the neighbourhood or your child's school.
However, if your child has already contracted an infection of chicken pox, give him one of the below-given remedies whose symptoms closely match.
Aconite 30 : Sudden onset of acute symptoms accompanied by undue fear, causing anguish and restlessness. During fever, the child demands large quantities of cold water (like Dulcamara, Mercurius) and likes to be in open air.
Antimony tart 30 : Rashes more on genitals, anus and back, forming painful crusts. Constant drowsiness with an irresistible desire to sleep, a craving for apples and citrus fruits, a dislike for milk and a desire to be in cool, open air (like Aconite) are other pointers to this remedy.
Dulcamara 30 : Rashes, especially on the face, the scalp and the arms, without any fever. Scratching of the skin causes intense burning which is relieved by a warm bath but aggravated by a cold bath. Milky whiteness of urine is another feature of this medicine.
Kali mur 6 : Rashes and pustules having thick, white contents and converting into dry, white scales call for this remedy. The tongue has a grayish white coating.
Mercurius sol 30 : Rashes and pustules with intense itching and pain, worse at night from the warmth of bed. The discharge from pustules, the breath and profuse perspiration, all have an offensive smell. An important feature is acute thirst for large quantities of cold water (like Aconite, Dulcamara).
Rhus tox 30 : Rashes with much swelling, burning and itching causing excessive restlessness. Itching and burning are relieved by warm applications/bath. There is an aversion to open air.

Home Remedies for DRY EYES

Home Remedies For Dry Eyes

Tear ducts that do not produce enough fluid to keep the eyes moist can result in an uncomfortable dry eye condition that is characterized by irritation, burning and a gravelly feeling.

Causes

Lack of humidity in your home or workplace may be the source of your dry eyes. Get an hygrometer to measure the humidity, then add a humidifier to raise the level.
Computer use or other close work where you need to concentrate can cause or exacerbate dry eye syndrome. When you concentrate you don't blink as often and therefore your eyes aren't being lubricated. People blink about 22 times a minute while relaxing, 10 times while reading, but only 7 times while working at a computer. Try to blink more frequently and take frequent breaks or use artificial tears.

Home Remedy for Dry Eyes

  • Use of a humidifier in conjunction with The See Clearly Method helps moisten the air and works even in dry, cool areas of the home or office.
  • Diet changes to include foods rich in vitamin A such as salmon, sardines, eggs, and dedicated nutritional supplements help to improve tear production.
  • Practice The See Clearly Method exercises on a daily basis until one's dry eye relief goals are achieved.
Natural Tears
Check out homeopathic eye drops for dry eye syndrome. Homeopathic medications are without side effects and are well-tolerated by even the most sensitive system. They work to restore health rather than to suppress symptoms.
  • You may be able to eliminate artificial tears completely by adding omega-3 fatty acids to your diet, which may increase the viscosity of oils made by the body, mostly in the skin and eyes. Omega-3s are found abundantly in coldwater fish and flaxseed oil. This means eating several servings of fish a week-especially all varieties of salmon (except smoked) and canned white tuna-and/or taking flaxseed oil.
CAUTION: If you're on blood-thinning medication, have uncontrolled high blood pressure or bleeding disorders, or are going in for surgery, be sure to check with your doctor before taking flaxseed oil.
  • Help your eyes do the work they're sup posed to do by opening the clogged oil glands in the eyelids. Take a warm, white washcloth and place it on your closed eyelids. Leave it on until it turns cool-five to 10 minutes. Do this a few times a day-obviously, the more the better.

Home Remedies for EAR PRESSURE

Home Remedies For Ear Pressure

The key to relieving the pressure caused by airplane takeoffs and landings is chewing and swallowing.
  • The American Academy of Otolaryngology in Rosemont, Illinois, advises that you should chew gum or suck on mints-whatever causes you to swallow more than usual. Stay awake as the plane ascends and descends so that you can consciously increase the amount of times you swallow.
  • If you're sleepy, that's good. Hopefully, you'll start yawning, which is even better than swallowing because it activates the muscle that opens your eustachian tube. Then air can be forced in and out of your eustachian canal, and that's what relieves the pressure in your ears.
Other Ear Problems
Get the Bugs Out
  • It happens! Not often, but once in a blue moon, an insect will get inside a person's ear. Since insects are attracted to light, if an insect gets in your ear, turn the ear toward the sun. Hopefully, the insect will fly out and away. If it occurs at night, shut off the lights in the room and shine a flashlight in your ear.
  • If the insect in your ear doesn't respond to the light, pour 1 teaspoon of warm olive oil into your ear and hold it there a minute or two.
Then tilt your head the other way so that the oil and the bug come floating out.
If that doesn't work, gently fill your ear with warm water. That should push out the insect and the oil.
If none of this debugs you, get professional medical help to remove the insect.
Waxy Build-up Begone!
  • Sprinkle black pepper into 1 tablespoon of warm corn oil, then dip a cotton ball into it and gently put the cotton into your ear. Remove the cotton after five minutes.
  • Warm 1 tablespoon of 3% hydrogen peroxide. Put 10 drops in the ear and let it fizz there for three minutes. Then tilt your head so that the liquid runs out onto a tissue. The wax should be softened. Gently remove the wax with soft cotton. Repeat the procedure with the other ear.
  • Warm 2 teaspoons of sesame oil and put 1 teaspoon of oil in each ear. Be sure the oil is not not too hot. Gently plug the ear with a cotton ball, and allow the oil to float around for a while. Once the sesame oil softens the wax, you can wash out the ears completely. The results-no more oil, no more wax.

  • Combine 1 drop of grapefruit extract, 1 drop of tea tree oil and 2 drops of olive oil, then put the mixture in your ear. Gently plug your ear with a cotton ball. This should help clear up the infection.
  • Take a sock, fill it with salt, microwave it until it is warm and tolerable to body. Lay your head on it. This may drain the fluid out.

"Why I slapped Akshay,” Katrina Kaif

"Why I slapped Akshay," Katrina Kaif

/photo.cms?msid=2624113 AC band karo please she screams. "Oh man, I'm going to freeze to death, its freaking crazy here," she breaks into a smile as we catch up with her over black coffee in a suburban 5 star hotel. As we start our conversation, the first thing one notice is that her accent has become more Indian and she has picked up quite a few Hindi words. She talks to Gautam Buragohain about her shot at stardom....

You ended 2007 on a high note with 3 big hits this year.
"Oh, yes, I had Namaste London, Apne, Partner . And all the 3 films did well. It's been an extremely fulfilling year professionally for me. My career is moving towards the right direction. I have taken the leap in the right direction and hopefully next year will be even better. But trust me my best is yet to come,"

And what about your personal front?
"What about it?"

Your love life?
(Raising her eyebrows) "C'mon don't start it all over again. I'm not answering this."

But you are known outside as Salman Khan's girlfriend?
"Oh really? That's weird; no one has ever told me that."

Ok got the message loud and clear. How has your family reacted to your new found stardom in Bollywood?
"My family is a little disconnected with the film industry. They have no proper knowledge about Bollywood. Whatever little they know about Bollywood is through me. But I'm glad that I have been able to give them financial security. It gives me immense pleasure to see my family financially secure because of me. It's a different high and satisfaction; I can't even explain it in words."

You started off with movies like Boom and now you have films with big stars like Salman, Akshay and Saif. How does it feel?
"It's a wonderful feeling. Everyone wanted to be on the top, but hailing from a non filmi background the success is sweet. I just wanted to prove it to myself."

Were you upset when critics called you just another pretty young thing who can't act?
"It was harsh. They should have understood where I came from. I had no formal training. I was very raw when I came in, I'm learning and improving with each day and still I have miles to go."

You seem to be an expert in comedies these days?
"You are right; actually I did quite a lot this year and also learnt a lot. Comedy is difficult, but once you get a grasp of it, you have a blast. Thanks to all the comedies that I did this year, I'm here today talking to you."

And your chemistry with Akshay Kumar?
"I think we look good on screen. I love working with Akshay. He is a non -judgmental kind of person. You don't feel shy while working with him. He makes me very comfortable."

You remember any incident with Akshay?
"Oh yes. I don't know whether I should speak about it or not. I'm sure he will get mad at me for telling it to you."

Please go ahead
"You know what? I slapped Akshay while shooting for Welcome . I was required to slap Akshay for a scene. I did that, but somehow it was not looking real and the director called for a re-take, I did the shoot again, still I was not getting it. Akshay got fed up and scream at me c'mon slap me hard. I got carried away and landed one tight slap, everyone just froze on the sets, and there was a pin drop silence. I realized what I did, and I'm like; I'm so sorry Akshay I know you are so upset. But Akshay took it sportingly. Now I'm practicing how to slap people without actually slapping them."

What was your first impression when you met Salman Khan?
"When I did my first film with Salman, it was like "oh my god", I'm going to do a film with Salman Khan. I had virtually butterflies in my stomach."

What's for 2008?
"Plenty, my diary is full. There's Abbas Mastan's Race , Subhash Ghai's Yuvraj , Yash Raj's film, Vipul Shah's Singh is Kinng . Phew! I'm already tried," (smiles)

Any New Year resolutions?
"Just to go ahead, don't want to get stagnant. Keep walking."
